Family

It has been the official policy of the United States to grant favored status for family unification through our immigration laws.  As you go through this process it will not feel as you are receiving favored treatment by the government.  It is a requirement under our immigration laws that each person filing for a benefit must prove eligibility for each element in order to receive the benefit. Approximately 20% of applications submitted for family based immigration benefits are denied.  Your family is too important to risk a one in five chance of being denied.

What the process is and how long the process takes are dependent upon the legal status of the petitioner.  Whom you can petition for as well depends upon your status in the United States.
If you are a United States Citizen for more information please see our page “Family of U.S. Citizens”.  And if you are a lawful permanent resident (a green card holder) please see this page “Family
of LPRs
”.
